The Power of Presence: Alok Ahuja’s Story of Love, Legacy, and Main Street Dreams
In this memorable Father’s Day edition of Chatter That Matters, host Tony Chapman sits down with Alok Ahuja, co-founder and CEO of Trexity, to explore how a profound father-son bond helped shape a business that’s revitalizing local communities. More than a discussion about entrepreneurship, this episode is a heart-opening look at family, sacrifice, resilience, and the small moments that inspire sweeping change.
From Family Sacrifice to Entrepreneurial Spirit
"My goal in life is not to say to my kids, but to show to my kids, to lead by example that hard work pays off.”
Alok Ahuja’s journey began in a home defined by love, tradition, and the wisdom of his immigrant father. When his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Alok made the pivotal decision to leave his high-profile career at Shopify to become a full-time caregiver. This choice led him to what he calls "probably...the greatest year of my life, getting to sit there with him."
During this intimate time, Alok experienced firsthand the daily challenges families face when caring for loved ones—especially the struggle to access essential goods and services. Frustrated by the lack of delivery options for necessities, he sparked the idea for Trexity: a platform built to empower local businesses and give back to the community. As Alok reflects, “Let’s put the power back into Main Street Canada, right? The favorite store on the favorite street of your favorite neighbourhood.”
Wisdom Passed Down: Values That Matter
Alok’s father was more than a role model—he was a hands-on teacher of resilience, humility, and the importance of forging meaningful relationships. “You’re only as good as your network," his father would advise, “and you always gotta go with your heart.” These lessons fueled Alok’s determination as an entrepreneur, embedding a “never lose” mentality and an unyielding commitment to serving others.
Alok describes how these family values became the DNA of Trexity’s mission: “Love all, serve all. How do we build this technology with love and solving for the gaps that these actual business owners are having?” By listening, connecting, and rooting business in community, Alok shows how legacy can drive innovation and success.
Lessons in Leadership: Business Built from the Heart
This episode is a testament to the belief that businesses flourish when they are founded on empathy, human connection, and service. From knocking on car windows at airport Uber lots to forging meaningful partnerships, Alok’s approach is to value every relationship, never take shortcuts, and always put purpose before profit.
Tony and Alok’s conversation is a guide for anyone seeking to build something lasting—be it a family legacy, a thriving business, or simply a meaningful life. The conversation reminds us all that showing up matters, in fatherhood, in business, and in community.
